How to access your COVID-19 vaccination status
You can access your COVID-19 vaccination status through the free NHS App from 17 May. You can access the app through mobile devices such as a smartphone or by tablet. Proof of your COVID-19 vaccination status will be shown within the NHS App. We recommend that you register with the app before booking international travel.
If you do not have access to a smartphone and know that the country you are travelling to requires COVID-19 vaccination status, you can call the NHS helpline on 119 (from 17 May) and ask for a letter to be posted to you. This must be at least 5 days after you’ve completed your course of the vaccine. We expect the letter to take up to 5 days to reach you.
Do not contact your GP surgery about your COVID-19 vaccination status. GPs cannot provide letters showing your COVID-19 vaccination status.
Pharmacy website launched
The Pharmacy website is now up and running. The website has a shopping section where you can purchase a large range of items at competitive prices delivered direct to your door.
We are letting you know about a very useful website called Germ Defence which was created by a team of doctors and scientists to give you advice that has been proven to reduce the spread of viruses in the home. It can help you plan how to protect yourself and members of your family from infection by COVID-19 and ‘flu.

COVID vaccination Update
Please click here for a copy of the letter being sent out to all patients with a mobile number in the eligible and over 50 cohorts. It provides the latest information on delivery of the COVID vaccine in Norfolk and Waveney.
Mid-Norfolk Practices have a designated vaccination site located at Swanton Morley, vaccinations to the over 70’s and those on the shielding list is underway. Please rest assured you will be contacted but not everyone will be able to have the vaccine at the same time.
Please don’t be alarmed if you have not yet received a call from the vaccination team or you find out that your neighbour or friend has had their vaccine and you haven’t. This is a complex program and we ask for your patience.
The vaccination team will be in touch with you when they know a delivery of vaccines is expected and they have clinics for you to attend.
A new method of offering appointments is now being used if patients have a mobile phone. You will receive a text message with a web link to enable you to book an appointment at Swanton Morley.
Nationally invite letters are being sent out offering appointments at the mass vaccinations centres.
It is up to patients to decide which location to attend.
Mattishall Surgery has no control over the availability of the vaccine or the booking of appointments.
Please do not contact your GP Practice to request a COVID-19 vaccine. You will be contacted when it's your turn to be vaccinated.
The vaccine will be offered to people who are most at risk from coronavirus, before being offered more widely.
The best thing we can all do to protect ourselves, our families and our communities is to remember - Hands, Face, Space.

During the lockdown period, should you require medical attention, please contact us – routine and emergency appointments will be available.
We would like to reassure you that routine nurse appointments will continue to take place, including blood tests, immunisations, smear tests and blood pressure checks. Please ring for an appointment or book online.
We are currently operating a telephone consultation system; you may have a telephone appointment with a clinician and, if the clinician feels it is required, face-to-face appointments will be offered.
Shielding has been resumed during the current lockdown period. If you were previously advised to shield, or you are clinically extremely vulnerable, you must follow government guidelines:
During the lockdown period, we will process prescription requests as normal. You do not need to order extra medication in advance. Please order online, giving 72 hours’ notice.

Extended Hours Access
We now offer appointments from 7.30am at Mattishall - please speak to a member of the Reception Team to book an early morning blood test, flu jab or telephone consultation with a GP/ANP.
First Contact Physiotherapist appointments now available
As of 1st July 2020 Patients can now be booked directly into Musculoskeletal assessment clinics running at Theatre Royal Surgery, Dereham. These are run by Specialist Physiotherapists and provide rapid access to assessment and advice for anyone suffering with joint pains or injury.
They can provide you with information and guidance on how mange your condition as well as exercise and treatment advice. They will be able to liaise with the GP’s if required or refer on to other services if they feel it’s appropriate.

Coronavirus Update: Patients requested to wear a face covering.
We now request that all patients attending the surgery for appointments wear a face covering.
They can be made at home www.gov.uk/government/publications/how-to-wear-and-make-a-cloth-face-covering or a scarf/improvised face covering is acceptable. Please do not purchase surgical masks as these are needed for healthcare workers.
If you have any of the following symptoms you should not attend the surgery
- a new continuous cough
- a new fever
- loss of/change in smell or taste

Join a COVID-19 clinical trial
The PRINCIPLE trial aims to find treatments that reduce hospital admission and improve symptoms for people with COVID-19. You could be eligible to join if
- You have had these symptoms for fewer than 15 days:
- a continuous new or worsening cough
- a high temperature
- You are aged 50 to 64 with a pre-existing illness
- You are aged 65 and above
Volunteers needed during the Coronavirus Pandemic

GP retirement and new GP - February 2020
Dr Hywel Jones has now retired from the practice and will no longer be seeing patients. The partnership will continue to be known as Dr Jones and Partners as Dr Elizabeth Jones has taken over as senior partner. Dr Chukwunwike has joined the practice and will be seeing patients at both Mattishall and Lenwade Surgeries from the 3rd February 2020.
Improved Access - extra appointments available at mid-Norfolk practices
This Practice is engaging in a pilot scheme providing improved access for patients to a range of healthcare professionals.
Appointments will be available at the following Mid-Norfolk practices;

Patients will be able to request an appointments each weekday evening between 6.30pm and 8pm and during selected times at weekends.
These appointments can be pre-booked and are intended to be beneficial to those patients that have difficulty attending during our normal surgery hours.
Ear Syringing Service Reinstated
The Nursing Team are now providing a limited in-house ear syringing service to patients. Patients will continue to be requested to follow the ear care advice currently supplied instructing patients to oil for 2 weeks and use sodium bicarbonate ear drops for a further 2 weeks.
Evidence has shown that removing wax from blocked ears is, in most cases, unnecessary and also shows that syringing comes with risk of infection and ear drum perforation.
If symptoms remain troublesome patients can book a 10-minute Ear Inspection appointment with the Practice Nurse for assessment. Patients will then be offered an ear syringing appointment if indicated at a later date. Referral to the Micro-suction service at Wymondham will only be offered if ear syringing has been unsuccessful.
Successful charity bid
On behalf of the practice, the Mattishall & Lenwade Surgeries Equipment Fund was successful in obtaining funding through the Tesco Bags of Help scheme and received funding to purchase a new ECG machine. Thank you to everyone that supported the charity when they visited Tesco Dereham.
New opening times for Pharmacy/Dispensary at Mattishall
Each Wednesday the Pharmacy/Dispensary staff will be involved in staff training between 8.30am and 9am. Therefore, the Pharmacy/Dispensary will now open at 9am each Wednesday.
NHS Health Checks
From June 2018, NHS Digital, acting on behalf of Public Health England (PHE), will be collecting information about people who are invited to an NHS Health Check. Further information can be obtained in the below link

Urgent 'book on the day' appointments can be requested by calling Reception at 8.30am for morning clinic and at 12noon for afternoon clinic
If you have a seasonal illness which requires more than a pharmacy but you don't need emergency treatment, we encourage our patients to contact Reception and request an urgent 'book on the day' appointment rather than attending an emergency service such as Accident and Emergency.
Detailed Coded Record (DCR) - we are now granting access.
We have now enabled the functionality on our clinical system to allow patients to request access to their Detailed Coded Record.
In 2016 we ran a successful pilot with members of the Patient Reference Group to test our process for granting patient’s access to their Detailed Coded Record (DCR) via SystmOnline.
We are now in the process of granting access to patients that have requested access to their Detailed Coded Record – please be aware that a GP needs to check each patient record as part of the process of granting access so there is a considerable administration burden on the practice and we have no set time frame for how quickly requests will be responded to.
You need to be registered for SystmOnline and make your request while logged in using the 'Manage Online Services' option under Your Account.

Named Accountable GP
Each patient is allocated a named GP who is responsible for patients' overall care at the Practice, and all new patients are informed of who this is in their welcome letter. You can contact the Practice at any time if you wish to know who this is. If you have a preference as to which GP is nominated as your named GP the Practice will make reasonable efforts to accommodate your request. This will not affect your choice of GP when booking an appointment.
