ADHD and Autism (ASD) Referrals – No Appointment Needed
If you think you or your child may have ADHD or Autism (ASD), you no longer need to book an appointment with the GP to begin the referral process. We’ve made it as simple as possible for you.
Referrals via Right to Choose
We have 4 accredited assessment providers under the Right to Choose (RTC) scheme.
These providers can assess ADHD, Autism (ASD), or both (Dual diagnosis).
If face-to-face appointments are important to you, please make sure the provider offers this option.
How it works?
1: Research the providers from the list below
2: Choose your provider
3: Let Us Know Your Choice – Call reception on 01362 850227 or Email our secretarial team (you must include the full name, the DOB, the chosen provider and whether the referral is for ADHD/ASD or Dual)
4: Our secretaries will process your referral to your chosen provider
5: The provider will contact you directly within 4 weeks.
6: Your initial assessment should begin within 18 weeks.

Non-urgent advice: Important Notes
– Waiting times are only estimates – neither we nor the providers can guarantee exact timelines.
– We do not monitor or control private providers outside of our accredited list, so please check that they offer what you need, we cannot take over medication care from a non-accredited provider.
Extra Support
If you need help completing provider forms, we recommend visiting ASD Helping Hands.
You can also ask a trusted friend or family member to help with the process.
NHS Referrals for ADHD and Autism (ASD)
For Adults:
If you would prefer to be referred through the NHS, the process involves a few steps:
Step 1: Collect an AQ10 form from reception.
Step 2: Write a detailed personal statement explaining why you believe you may have ADHD or Autism. Try to include relevant experiences from childhood through to the present day.
Step 3: Book a GP appointment and bring both the completed AQ10 form and your written statement.
🔹 Please note: NHS waiting times for adult ADHD/ASD assessments are currently very long.
For Children and Young People (Under 18):
Aged 6 and Over:
As of June 2024, a new referral pathway allows schools to refer directly for ADHD and Autism assessments.
Schools are now best placed to gather the necessary information and initiate referrals.
If your child’s school advises that the GP needs to make the referral, you will need to:
Collect a referral pack from reception, which includes:
A form for you (the parent/guardian) to complete.
A separate form to be filled out by the school.
This referral will be sent through the Neurodevelopmental Service (NDS).
🔹 Current waiting times for NDS referrals are approximately 2–3 years.
Under 6 Years Old:
ADHD:
We are currently unable to refer for ADHD assessments for children under the age of 6. If you have concerns, you will need to wait until your child turns 6.
In the meantime, support is available from Just One Norfolk.
Autism (ASD):
We can refer children under 6 for autism assessments if there are significant concerns – for example, delays in social communication or interaction.
Please contact us via our usual appointment system to discuss a referral.
